Universal life plans offer greater flexibility than whole life. You can pay premiums at any time, as long as you are within the minimum and maximum required within the policy. Every dollar you contribute over the minimum deposit amount goes into the investment portion of the life insurance, and the investment portion is sheltered from taxation. Unlike whole life insurance, you actively manage the investment portion of the life insurance.
